Description
Restore the Original 1997 AFK Vehicle Emission Control Label
This factory-style reproduction replaces a faded, damaged, peeling or missing GM 12557271 Vehicle Emission Control Information label. The original artwork is identified by the code AFK and was used on selected 1997 Chevrolet, GMC and Oldsmobile S/T-series vehicles equipped with the 4.3L V6 and the matching Federal-emissions configuration.
The label combines the original emissions-family information, catalyst and emissions-control abbreviations, spark-plug gap, accessory-drive-belt routing, alternate non-A/C belt routing, service notice, emissions-compliance statement and emission-hose routing diagram in one underhood label.
This is a fixed configuration reproduction. It is not customized by VIN and contains no vehicle-specific serial number, owner information or individual production sequence.

Applications Not Included
- 1997 Chevrolet S10 2WD pickups using GM 12557270 / code AFJ
- 1997 GMC Sonoma 2WD pickups using GM 12557270 / code AFJ
- California-emissions applications using a different certification label, including code AFR / GM 12557276

- Canadian-market Z49 applications

- 1996, 1998 or later model-year applications

If your original label is AFJ, AFM, AFR or another code, do not order this AFK reproduction even if the vehicle is also a 1997 model equipped with a 4.3L engine.
Understanding the Non-A/C Routing Callout
The “NON A/C” wording identifies an alternate belt route shown within the original diagram. It does not mean that the complete label is limited only to vehicles built without air conditioning.
Compare the full pulley arrangement and both routing paths with the original vehicle before ordering.

Trim-to-Fit Construction
The label is intentionally supplied trim-to-fit. This allows the installer to cut cleanly around the finished outside edge before installation.
Complete all trimming while the backing remains attached. Use sharp scissors or a precision craft knife, a metal straightedge and a protected cutting surface.
Installation
- Confirm the AFK code, original GM reference number and complete artwork.
- Test-fit the label at the original underhood location.
- Trim carefully around the finished edge while the backing remains attached.
- Remove the damaged original label and as much residual adhesive as practical.
- Clean the mounting surface with a residue-free cleaner appropriate for the material.
- Allow the surface to dry completely and cool before installation.
- Peel back a small section of the backing and align the label.
- Apply gradually from one side to the other while pressing outward to reduce trapped air.
- Press firmly across the complete label, especially around the edges.
- Allow the adhesive to set before washing or heavily handling the area.
The donor label was installed on the upper radiator or core-support area. Use the remaining original label, adhesive outline or vehicle-specific reference photography to confirm the correct position.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this label customized for my VIN?
No. GM 12557271 / AFK is a fixed configuration label shared by several compatible vehicles. It does not contain an individual VIN or production serial number.
Does it fit a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer 2WD?
Yes, when the vehicle has the catalog-supported 4.3L L35 and NF2 configuration and originally used the AFK label.
Does it fit a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer or GMC Jimmy 4WD?
Yes, for catalog-supported L35 or LF6 4.3L/NF2 applications when the original label code and diagrams match.
Does it fit a 2WD Chevrolet S10 or GMC Sonoma?
No. Standard 2WD S10 and Sonoma pickup applications use the separate AFJ label, GM reference 12557270.
Does it fit the Oldsmobile Bravada?
GM catalogs list 12557271 for the 1997 Bravada with the applicable 4.3L Federal-emissions configuration. Verify the AFK code and complete artwork before ordering.
Does it fit California-emissions vehicles?
No. California-emissions applications use a different certification label and should not use this AFK reproduction.
Is this label only for a vehicle without air conditioning?
No. “NON A/C” identifies an alternate belt path inside the diagram. It is not the sole fitment criterion.
Is this an original General Motors label?
No. This is a newly manufactured aftermarket reproduction made for GMT Central. It is not a genuine GM or New Old Stock part.
Is the label pre-cut?
No. It is supplied trim-to-fit so the installer can create a clean finished edge.
Will installing this label guarantee that the vehicle passes an inspection?
No. This product is intended for restoration and reference use. It does not certify the vehicle’s current emissions equipment, legalize missing or modified components, or guarantee acceptance by an inspection authority.
