Description
Keep the Most-Used GMT800 Service Information Under the Hood
Stop searching through manuals and forum threads every time routine maintenance is due. This GMT Central Quick-Spec Fluid Capacity & Service Interval Underhood Label provides an easy-to-read reference chart for one of the most common GMT800 half-ton powertrain combinations.
This version is designed specifically for vehicles equipped with:
- LM7 — 5.3L Vortec 5300 gasoline V8
- M30 — Hydra-Matic 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission
- NP8 — NVG246 two-speed AutoTrac transfer case
The label places frequently referenced fluid types, approximate capacities, and maintenance reminders in the engine compartment where they are readily available during service.
This is an original GMT Central product. It is not a reproduction of a factory GM label and should not be represented as an OEM maintenance decal.
Confirm All Three RPO Codes Before Ordering
This product is configuration-specific. Your vehicle must have all three codes listed below:
| RPO code | Component | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| LM7 | 5.3L Vortec 5300 V8 | Do not substitute L59, L33, LR4, LQ4, or another engine solely because displacement is similar. |
| M30 | 4L60-E automatic transmission | Do not use for M32 4L65-E, MT1 4L80-E, MN8, Allison, or another transmission. |
| NP8 | NVG246 AutoTrac transfer case | Do not use for NP2, NP3, NP4, NR3, NR4, two-wheel drive, or another transfer case. |
RPO codes are normally shown on the Service Parts Identification label. Depending on model and year, that label may be in the glovebox, center-console area, door opening, or another vehicle-specific location.
Use the GMT Central GM RPO Code Decoder to interpret your vehicle’s codes. The GMT Central VIN Decoder can help confirm the model year and engine, but the VIN alone may not identify every transmission and transfer-case configuration.
Vehicle Application Reference
This version is intended for selected 1500-series GMT800 vehicles when all three RPO codes match.
| Years | Vehicle | Required configuration |
|---|---|---|
| 1999–2006 | Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 1999–2006 | GMC Sierra 1500 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 2000–2006 | Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 2000–2006 | Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 2000–2006 | GMC Yukon 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 2000–2006 | GMC Yukon XL 1500 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
| 2002–2006 | Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4WD | LM7 + M30 + NP8 |
The year and model ranges are reference ranges, not universal fitment guarantees. GM offered several 5.3L engines, transmissions, and transfer cases during the GMT800 generation. The three RPO codes remain the controlling fitment test.

| Front differential | Gear-oil specification and approximate fill guidance for the matching half-ton 4WD configuration |
| Rear differential | Gear-oil guidance, approximate capacity reference, and G80-related service note |
| Cooling system | DEX-COOL guidance, capacity distinction for front-only versus front-and-rear HVAC, and replacement reminder |

| Brake system | Brake-fluid specification and time-based inspection or service reminder |
Important Capacity and Service-Interval Notes
The numbers shown on this product are intended as quick service references. They do not replace the proper fill and level-check procedures.
- Transmission: The amount added during a normal pan-and-filter service is not the same as the completely dry transmission capacity. Final fluid level must be verified using the correct warm-level procedure and dipstick.
- Transfer case: Fill to the proper fill-hole level using the specified fluid rather than relying only on a measured quantity.
- Axles: Capacities can vary with axle assembly, differential cover, body configuration, and production revision. The fill-plug level is the final control.
- Cooling system: Capacity differs between front-only and front-and-rear HVAC systems.
- Maintenance intervals: Towing, commercial use, frequent idling, short trips, dusty conditions, off-road use, and temperature extremes may require more frequent service.
- Replacement fluids: GM service-fluid recommendations can be updated after the vehicle was manufactured. Use a currently approved product that meets the appropriate GM specification.
This label is best used together with the owner’s manual, vehicle-specific service information, and the actual component fluid-level procedure.
Applications Not Included

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this label fit every GMT800 with a 5.3L engine?
No. It fits only vehicles with the LM7 engine, M30 4L60-E transmission, and NP8/NVG246 AutoTrac transfer case. Other 5.3L engine and drivetrain combinations require a different label.
How do I confirm the correct version?
Locate the Service Parts Identification label and verify that LM7, M30, and NP8 are all present. Use the GMT Central RPO Code Decoder when you need help interpreting the codes.
Can I determine the correct label from the VIN alone?
The VIN can help confirm the year, vehicle, and engine. It may not independently identify every transmission, transfer case, axle, and HVAC configuration, so the RPO label remains the preferred fitment source.
Is this a genuine GM label?
No. This is an original aftermarket maintenance-reference product designed and manufactured for GMT Central. It is not a genuine GM label, factory option, or reproduction of an OEM decal.
Are the capacities exact?
The capacities are service-reference values. Actual refill quantity can vary according to how completely a component drains, installed equipment, axle or case revision, and previous modifications. Always use the applicable dipstick, fill plug, or service-level procedure to establish the final level.
Are the intervals official GM warranty intervals?
No. The label is a condensed maintenance aid. Vehicle-specific owner and service information, operating conditions, fluid updates, and severe-service requirements take precedence.
What transmission fluid should I use?
Use a currently approved fluid that meets the appropriate GM service specification for the 4L60-E. Do not confuse automatic-transmission fluid with the Auto-Trak II fluid required by the NP8 transfer case.
Does the NP8 transfer case use automatic-transmission fluid?
The NP8/NVG246 AutoTrac transfer case uses Auto-Trak II transfer-case fluid. Do not substitute ordinary transmission fluid solely because another GM transfer case uses it.
Does this fit 2500 or 3500 models?
No. Heavy-duty GMT800 models generally use different engines, transmissions, axles, fluid capacities, and maintenance requirements.
Is the label pre-cut?
No. It is supplied trim-to-fit so the installer can create a clean finished edge.
Where should I install it?
Choose a visible, relatively flat underhood surface away from excessive heat and moving parts. Common options include an upper radiator support, fan-shroud area, or another clean service-access location.
Maintenance and Liability Notice
This label is a convenience reference and does not replace the vehicle-specific owner’s manual, service manual, technical service information, professional diagnosis, or required safety procedures.
Always verify the correct fluid, final level, torque specification, and service procedure before operating the vehicle. Incorrect fluid selection, underfilling, overfilling, or an inappropriate service interval can cause component damage.
