Description

Restore the Original Automatic Transfer-Case Warning

This factory-style reproduction replaces a faded, damaged or missing GM 12565610 automatic transfer-case caution label. It recreates the original black-and-yellow bilingual warning used on selected Chevrolet, GMC and Oldsmobile trucks and SUVs.

The label warns technicians not to test the vehicle on a two-wheel-drive dynamometer. This information is particularly relevant to vehicles equipped with an automatic four-wheel-drive or full-time driveline system that can be damaged or behave incorrectly when only one axle is operated.

This listing is for one newly manufactured aftermarket reproduction made for GMT Central. It is not a genuine GM or New Old Stock label.

Fitment Is Based on the Transfer-Case Configuration

GM reference 12565610 appears in several vehicle catalogs, but it is not intended for every vehicle within the listed model ranges. On many Chevrolet and GMC applications, the catalog specifically associates the label with RPO NP8, GM’s automatic AutoTrac transfer-case configuration.

Before ordering, verify at least one of the following:

  • Your original label shows GM reference number 12565610.
  • Your Service Parts Identification label includes RPO NP8.
  • The wording, colors and complete layout match your surviving original label.
  • A GM parts catalog identifies 12565610 for your exact model, drivetrain and transfer-case configuration.

You can use the GMT Central GM RPO Code Decoder to identify NP8 and other drivetrain codes.

Fitment note: Catalog databases differ in how they group model years, bodies and engines. The original part number and transfer-case RPO take precedence over a broad year-and-model listing.

Not the Same as the AWD Warning Label

GM 12565610 is the automatic transfer-case caution label. It should not automatically be substituted for the separate all-wheel-drive warning label sold under GM reference 12567697 or its later replacement number 24258938.

Vehicles equipped with AWD transfer-case RPOs such as NP3, NR3 or NR4 may use the separate AWD warning label instead. Do not install both labels solely because the vehicle is four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Compare the original label and Service Parts Identification codes before ordering. The separate GM 12567697 AWD warning label is available for applicable vehicles.

Trim-to-Fit Construction

The reproduction is intentionally supplied trim-to-fit. This allows the installer to cut closely around the finished border before applying the label.

Complete all trimming while the backing remains attached. Use sharp scissors or a precision craft knife, a straightedge and a protected cutting surface.

Installation

  1. Confirm the original part number, RPO and warning-label design.
  2. Test-fit the reproduction at the original underhood location.
  3. Trim around the finished border while the backing remains attached.
  4. Remove the original label and as much residual adhesive as practical.
  5. Clean the mounting area with a residue-free cleaner appropriate for the surface.
  6. Allow the mounting surface to dry completely and cool before installation.
  7. Peel back a small section of the backing and carefully align the label.
  8. Apply gradually from one side to the other while pressing outward to reduce trapped air.
  9. Press firmly over the entire label, especially along the edges.
  10. Allow the adhesive to set before washing or heavily handling the area.

The original location may vary by vehicle. Many applications place the label on the upper radiator support, core support or another visible underhood panel. Use the old label, remaining adhesive outline or vehicle-specific reference photography to confirm placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this fit every vehicle in the application list?

No. The vehicle must have the matching automatic transfer-case configuration. Confirm RPO NP8, GM reference 12565610 or the complete original artwork before ordering.

What is RPO NP8?

NP8 identifies GM’s AutoTrac automatic four-wheel-drive transfer-case system on applicable vehicles. The system can automatically transfer torque when wheel slip is detected.

Why does the label mention a two-wheel-drive dynamometer?

The warning tells a service technician not to operate the vehicle on equipment that turns only one axle. The installed automatic transfer-case or driveline system requires appropriate testing procedures.

Is this the same as GM 12567697?

No. GM 12567697 is a separate all-wheel-drive warning label used with other drivetrain configurations. Match the original part number and RPO rather than choosing solely by appearance.

Does this fit a Cadillac Escalade or GMC Denali?

Do not assume that it does. Many Escalade and Denali AWD configurations use the separate AWD warning label. Order 12565610 only when the original part number or exact configuration confirms it.

Is this an original General Motors label?

No. This is a newly manufactured aftermarket reproduction made for GMT Central. It is not a genuine GM or New Old Stock part.

Is the label pre-cut?

No. It is supplied trim-to-fit so the installer can create a clean finished edge around the artwork.

Will this label guarantee that a vehicle passes inspection?

No. The label is intended for restoration and reference use. It does not certify the vehicle’s present drivetrain configuration or guarantee acceptance by an inspection authority.
